RE: NOTICE OF NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS FOR SMART LOCAL 55 UNION OFFICES
Per the Constitution and Ritual of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, Transportation Workers (SMART C&R),
Article Twelve (12), Section Five (5), this letter is to serve as timely notice that nominations for all Local 55 Union offices will be
held May 18, 2017 at the Pasco meeting (1718 W. Sylvester St. Pasco, WA 99301) beginning at 6:30pm. The term of office will
run from July 20, 2017 to July 16, 2020.
Candidates may nominate themselves at the meeting or can be nominated by any member in good standing. A second is not
necessary. Members can also nominate themselves by written letter addressed to the President of SMART Local 55 and sent by
certified mail, return receipt requested. Hand delivered nominations must be received in the Pasco office (1718 W. Sylvester
St. Pasco, WA 99301) prior to the start of the Membership Meeting on May 18, 2017.
Any member who is nominated for a Local 55 office and who is not present at the meeting at which nominations are made, or
does not nominate himself or herself by mail, shall be dropped from the list of nominees unless within five days after such
nomination (May 18, 2017) he/she notifies the Recording Secretary in writing by certified mail, return receipt requested,
addressed to Local 55’s Pasco office (1718 W. Sylvester St. Pasco, WA 99301), or hand delivered, of his/her willingness to run
for such office.
Members, who are nominated for a Local 55 office, must comply with eligibility requirements as described in the SMART C&R as
well as the residency requirements contained in the Local 55 Election Resolution. You may receive a copy of the SMART C&R at
the Pasco Union Hall, or a copy can be found online at smart‐union.org.
In accordance with SMART C&R, article 12, Section 3, to be eligible for nominations to Local Union office on May 18, 2017,
dues for the month of May must be paid in the Pasco office on or before 4:00pm, Friday, April 28, 2017, or electronically by
midnight Sunday, April 30, 2017. Further, to be eligible for election on June 27, 2017, dues for the month of June must be
paid on or before May 31, 2017 in the Pasco office.
- The positions open for nomination are:
- President/SMART General or Special Convention Delegate
- Vice President/First Alternate Delegate to President
- Recording Secretary/SMART General or Special Convention Delegate
- Business Manager/Financial Secretary ‐Treasurer
- Three (3) Business Representatives/Agents designated as follows:
- One (1) Business Agent for the Spokane area
- One (1) Business Agent for the Boise area
- One (1) Business Agent/Conductor for the Tri‐Cities area.
- 3 Executive Board members
- 4 Trustees
- 1 Warden.
Again, Local 55 nomination for union offices will be on May 18, 2017, at the Pasco office (1718 W. Sylvester St. Pasco, WA
99301) at 6:30pm. The Local 55 election is to be held on June 27, 2017. For election details, please see the SMART Local 55
Election Resolution which is available at all Local Union offices, or online at smw55.org. Please see the reverse side of this letter
for polling locations and times.
After the May 18, 2017 nomination meeting and before the June 27, 2017 election, a sample ballot of candidates will be mailed
to you. Please take time to participate in this important process.
